If you’re on the internet long enough, you’ll find yourself caring about things you had no opinion on before, like what your zombie hideout would be or which of the Doctor Who guys was best. Another thing that will happen? You’ll start hating the Comic Sans font even if you are not a graphic designer.
No one likes it, yet so many people still use it. While science (or whoever) figures that out, here are even more reasons to hate Comic Sans:
1) The creator, Vincent Connare, is actually okay with the uncanny hatred of the font. He does have this to say, though:
“If you love it, you don’t know much about typography. If you hate it, you really don’t know much about typography, either, and you should get another hobby."
The gauntlet has been thrown, guys. Go pick on Papyrus or something, because this guy doesn’t give a fuck.
2) It was originally created for Microsoft’s ill-fated Bob suite, and it could have died there if not for an unnamed product manager who had it included in Windows 95. Don’t blame Vincent Connare for Comic Sans. Blame that guy.
3) The font is actually based off the lettering from two of the greatest comics of the 80s: Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns. One of the most reviled things in the history of geekdom came from two of the most acclaimed. The irony is enough to make you weep.
